It's Sketch time at Heart2Heart

Mary has come up with a really versatile sketch for you to try this week at the Heart2Heart Challenge Blog:
I decided to do a tall version, so my card measures 4"x9 1/2", and I made a masculine birthday card using the papers and stamp set from the CTMH May promotional kit You & Me (if you don't have this yet, you can order it through your consultant until the end of the month).  The H2H design team have some wonderful creations to inspire you this week, and we have our May guest designer Joelle Hiller joining us.  This week's challenge will be part of our June Top Ten (the May selections will be posted later this week), and we have two new prize sponsors, Romaine Rancine & Michelle Owen, whose prizes will be randomly awarded to two players from our June challenges.  We ask that you use mostly CTMH products in your submissions, and if you use some contra, simply tell us where it's from.  Here's what I put together this week:

Patterned Papers are You & Me; Cardstock is Chocolate & Colonial White; Garden Green grosgrain ribbon is Veranda Creative Basics; Stamp sets are You & Me, Salutation Seals & Say it in Style; Inks are Chocolate, Garden Green & Creme Brulee; Basics Buttons - all CTMH; Bakers Twine is from The Twinery.

ABC Challenge on Heart2Heart

Anything But a Card!  Oh my.....cards are my thingAnd for this week's Heart2Heart Challenge we are asked to do anything but... this is honestly my hardest challenge.  And of course, being a procrastinator at heart, here I am leaving for the long weekend in less than 12 hours, and I'm trying to come up with a fabulous project?  After tossing ideas around in my head for the last few days, I finally came up with the idea to do a layout (duh, that I can do!).  My current favourite kit is the May promo "You & Me", which I'm going to run out of way too soon... but it didn't work perfectly with the pictures I wanted to use.  So... I pulled out the tulip b&t papers from Sweetheart, and used the stamps, chipboard shapes and layout from the You & Me kit, and this is what I came up with:
It's midnight, and I'm snapping photos without ideal lighting, so please forgive me for the blurry photos.  When I return from our time away, I'll see if I can do better!  One thing that I really wanted to show everyone, is how easy it is to change and reuse the wonderful layout designs that CTMH provides in their promos, Workshops on the Go, and layout books like Reflections.  You just have to change the papers & inks, and in my case the photos were a little different, but you can make the layouts work for your photos.  Here are a few shots of each page, and close ups of the design elements:

Patterned paper is Sweetheart; Cardstock is Tulip, Black, White Daisy & Grey Wool; Stamp sets are Universal Backgrounds, You & Me & Stitched Together; Ribbon is Wings level 2 assortment & Black Mini-Medley; Black Liquorice Opaque Pearls; Red Sparkles - all CTMH.

I will add a little journaling around the outside of the photos, just like the You & Me flyer... when I return next week.  We would love to have you join us over at the Heart2Heart Challenges blog, and you can link up anything you like (except a card!).  We do ask that you use mostly Close To My Heart products, and if you do sneak some contra in there, just list it, so that we know what it is!  You have until the end of the month to play, and you could be chosen as one of our monthly Top Ten, or maybe you'll win one of the prizes donated by our sponsors.  Check out the H2H blog to see what the other designers have come up with!

Mojo Monday #191

This week's Mojo Monday sketch worked perfectly with my Echo Park papers and Verve's little sailboat from the Text Objects stamp set.  The inside sentiment says: "There are big ships and small ships, but the best ship of all is Friendship".  Perfect for a friend's birthday card.  Here's the sketch:
The colours look a bit washed out in the photo, but they're wonderfully bright in real life!  Stamp set is Text Objects, Verve; Patterned Papers are Little Boy, Echo Park; Ink is Outdoor denim; Cardstock is White Daisy & Outdoor Denim; Cranberry My Accents - all CTMH;  Ribbon is from my stash!

Heart2Heart Technique Challenge

This week, Heart2Heart's "From Our Heart to Yours" Challenge - is to show us your favourite technique.  Stitching on my work, is definitely my favourite technique, (and I did on this card!) but I also decided to use another favourite, paper pleating.  Pleating our B&T paper is so easy, and a box pleat is my favourite look.  To do it like my sample, grab your paper trimmer and an embossing stylus, and score measurements as follows: 1/4", 1/2", 1/4", 5/8" and keep repeating the pattern right across.  I needed a bit more than 12" in length to go across my card, so I was able to hide the join underneath one of the pleats.  *If you've never sewn on your cards or layouts - give it a try!  You need a fine sharp needle (it needs to be fine, otherwise the bigger needles just leave larger holes in your work), and you want a fairly long stitch (mine are usually 4.5).  No backstitching, just put the needle in your work and go - and when you're done, simply stop.  Leave a long tail when you start sewing, and when you cut your threads.  Then turn your work over, and from the back, gently tug on the thread to pull the thread from the front through to the back.  I usually tie off the ends to keep them taut, but you can also tape them down.

Patterned papers are Mayberry; Cardstock is Olive, Smoothie & Colonial White; Stamp set is A Little Everything; Inks are Honey & Olive; Ribbons are Pink Collection; Mocha Opaque Pearls. - All CTMH.
Remember that you need to use CTMH products to enter the challenge, and if you do use some contra, just let us know what it is.  This month Angel Shifflet & Sharon Holmes have donated prizes for two lucky winners that will be randomly drawn at the end of the month, and you could be chosen as one of our monthly Top Ten!  Check out what the fabulous design team has come up with to inspire you (the artwork is quite fabulous!)

Play Date Cafe Challenge #81

This week's Play Date Cafe colour combo was a bit off-beat for me!  But it's a gloomy, rainy day here, so it fit my off-beat mood perfectly :o)  I didn't have the perfect patterned paper for this one... so I made my own with the Wings Workshop on the Go stamp set as my background.  Making this card has cheered me up considerably (or maybe it's the fruity rum drink that my husband brought me while I was working!)  either way, I love the outcome:
Stamp sets are Wings, WOTG & State of Mind; Cardstock is Grey Wool, Pansy Purple & White Daisy; Inks are Grey Wool & Kiwi; Pansy Purple Just Blooms paper flowers; Key Lim Bigger brads; Rhinestones, Michaels.

Color Throwdown Challenge #141 & Ribbon Carousel #2

This card is for a couple of challenges, I used this week's Color Throwdown Challenge colours:
I also wanted to participate in a new blog's weekly challenge, the Ribbon Carousel (RCC2) who has a Shabby Chic challenge.  So I pulled out my Mayberry papers which have a vintagey feel to them, made a paper flower and grunged it up a bit with some cocoa ink:

Mojo Monday #190

I love this week's Mojo sketch!  And it just happens to be designed by my fellow H2H design team member, Debbie Carriere, which makes it even better :o)  I really adore the You & Me kit that is available in May, so I decided to use it with the sketch - don't you love the ribbon?
Patterned papers, ribbon, chipboard & stamp set are You & Me; Cardstock is Chocolate, Smoothie & Colonial White; Inks are Creme Brulee & Chocolate; buttons - all CTMH.  Twine - The Twinery; Nestabilities die.

Show us your Buttons! Heart2Heart Challenge

I LOVE using buttons on my cards, and CTMH has such a lovely selection right now - gorgeous colours, flower shapes, clear buttons, wooden buttons - just about all you could wish for.  We even have a button stamp set (one of my faves!).  This week's Heart2Heart Challenge is to use buttons on your card or project, so hop on over to the blog to see what the rest of the design team has come up with - there is some extremely cute & inspiring artwork this week!  One of this month's prize sponsors, Angel Shifflet is playing along with us, both she & Sharon Holmes are providing lovely prize packages that will be randomly awarded at the end of the month to two lucky players.  We ask that you use mostly CTMH product in the challenge, and if you sneak in a little contra - just be sure to list where it comes from.   My card was inspired by one that we made at the Toronto Regionals event hosted by CTMH a few weeks ago, we used the Happy Moments stamp set in several different ways, and I've incorporated a couple of them this week.  The background paper is the back side of the butterfly b&t paper in Wings, that I have overstamped with the long border image in Happy Moments, and the flower is made by stamping the flower image 3 times, cutting them out and layering them to make a 3D flower, with the paisley images working as leaves.  I don't think it shows up too well in the photo, but I 'bowed' out the sentiment so that it curves away from the card.
Here's a closeup of the flower, I curled up the edges of the petals, and pop dotted the center piece:

Patterned papers are Wings; Cardstock is Kraft, Pear, Sunkiss Yellow & White Daisy; Stamp sets are Happy Moments & Birthday script; Inks are Pear & Sweet Leaf; Buttons are Clear & Green Assortments. - all CTMH.  Martha Stewart border punch.

Hope For Japan

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there :o)  I wanted to share a little card set that I've made to give my Sister-In-Law today.  She is a breast cancer survivor, and when I first saw the "Hope for Japan" stamp set that Close To My Heart came out with to raise money for the Red Cross, I thought it would make some great cards for her.  They are 4 1/4" square:
Patterned paper is Sweetheart; Cardstock is White Daisy & Grey Wool; Stamp set is Hope for Japan; Inks are Cotton Candy, Hollyhock & Grey Wool - all CTMH.

Mother's Day Inspiration at Heart2Heart Challenges

It's Mother's Day week at the Heart2Heart Challenges blog!  Show us your cards, your gifts or your layouts - whatever you're making for the ladies in your life.  After losing my Mom a few years ago, my Dad has remarried a lovely lady who loves neutral colours, so I've made a not-so-typical Mother's Day card using the neutral Bliss papers paired with Sky Blue for my Stepmom.  This colour combo was used by the wonderful creative team at CTMH's head office at the Toronto Regional celebration - and it is quite gorgeous in person.  I was also inspired by a card recently made by Lisa Aquino (a very talented consultant)...  Here's what I've come up with:

Our 2" scalloped punch makes amazing paper flowers!  I used 2 layers of scrunched up patterned paper glued onto a piece of scalloped choclate cardstock that was also punched.

All supplies are CTMH - Patterned papers are Bliss; Stamp set is Universal Backgrounds; Ink is Chocolate; Cardstock is Chocolate, Sky Blue & Colonial White; Natural Hemp; Chocolate button; Cocoa Grosgrain ribbon; 2" scalloped punch      Angel Shifflett & Sharon Holmes are our May sponsors - so be sure to enter the challenges all month long for a chance to win one of their prizes, or to be chosen as one of our monthly Top Ten.  Check out what each of the Heart2Heart Design Team have to show you:
