Cake, anyone?

When my daughter & I signed up to do the Wilton Level 2 cake decorating class, it seemed like May would be the perfect time to do it... ha!  We turned out to be crazy busy, lots of activities by all family members, me working more than normal and driving everyone all over the place.  Oh well, amidst it all we learned how to make little gum paste flowers and the classic roses.  Tonight was our grand finale where we each made a cake using flowers we'd made earlier in the course.  We were a little rushed getting cakes baked & iced, and making multiple batches of buttercream icing, so our cakes were pretty quickly thrown together, but we are pretty pleased with the results.  First, here is Paige's cake (she's 14):
And here's mine, I went the gum paste route, just don't look too closely at my first attempt at a basketweave:

Deconstructed Sketch #53

I used my Key Ingredients kit papers for this week's Deconstructed Sketch... I needed a generic guy card yesterday, and my selection was fairly pitiful, so I'm hoping to work on a few male-friendly cards for my stash in the next while.  Hopefully this one fits the bill (even though there's a vague Minnie Mouse feel to it!):
Patterned Papers are Pebbles, Fresh Goods (Key Ingredients kit); Stamps are CTMH; Inks are Outdoor Denim & Tulip - CTMH;

Humble Artist's Swap

I have the priviledge of being a part of the amazing Humble Artist's Swap, and as usual we had quite the list of recquirements for our April cards. They must have:
- at least 8 layers
- use patterned paper from 2 different paper packs
- use 3 different colours of cardstock (not counting neutrals)
- use at least 3 different embellishments
- tie it up (use hemp, twine or waxy flax)
- use an Art Philosophy shape
- be at least 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
I made mine 5"x 6 1/2" -- here's what I came up with:

Patterned papers are Stella & Lucy; Cardstock is Sweet Leaf, Creme Brulee, Cotton Candy, Grey Wool & Colonial White; Natural hemp; Newsprint Rub-ons; Stamp set is Card Word Puzzle; Black & Creme Brulee Ink; Licorice Opaque Pearl; Flutter shapes - all CTMH.

Sketchbook Saturday Challenge #54 & Key Ingredients May Challenge

Yay!  I got my Key Ingredients kit in the mail today... so I immediately pulled it out to make something for the May Key Ingredients challenge which is "May Flowers".  I've used this week's Sketchbook Saturday sketch.  The little canvas flowers came in my KI kit... they have cute little resist hearts embossed on them, so that when I sponged them with ink, the little hearts appeared.

Stamp set is Bloom & Grow, Verve; Baker's Twine, The Twinery; Inks are Black, Heavenly Blue & Baby Pink, CTMH; - all other supplies are the May Key Ingredients kit.

Inspired By #24

I've been wanting to play the Inspired By challenge for the last few weeks, and I always seem to run out of time!  So this week I didn't waste any time, and had an idea as soon as I saw the inspiration photo.  I distressed my little gingham strawberries, and cut a green flower in half to make the leafy green bits:
The inspiration photo:
Patterned papers are 100 Days of Summer, Simple Stories; Baker's Twine, Martha Stewart; Stamp sets are Adorable & Card Sentiments, CTMH; Ink is Tuxedo Black, Memento; Michael's flowers.

Mother's Day card for CASE study

I've combined this week's Sketchbook Saturday sketch with the inspiration from the CASE study challenge to make a card for my Mother-in-law.  I loved the outline rose stamp on Agnieszka Malyszek's card, and thought they would work perfectly with the Card Word Puzzle stamp set.  I went with pretty colours:

Okay.  Now after colouring the images with my Copics, I knew that I didn't have perfectly matching pinks - my markers lean a bit more to the peachy side of things.  So I debated on flipping my background over to the creme brulee side... here's what it would've looked like.  I thought the green lost a bit of focus, even though the roses blended better, but I decided to stay with my pink background after all.  Thoughts?
Patterned papers are CTMH; Cardstock is Black, White Daisy and Sweet Leaf; Stamp sets are Card Word Puzzle & A Little Everything; Ink is Tuxedo Black, Memento; Copic Markers.

Mojo Monday #240

I fit in a little time in my craft room this afternoon, and worked on this week's Mojo Monday sketch.  I decided to distress a few of my edges, since I want to be Teresa Kline when I grow up (seriously, who doesn't?)... and I have to laugh, because just when I think I've distressed my paper like crazy - I look at her work, and realize that I'm about 10% there!!  Oh well, I'm pleased with my card and it's delicately distressed edges :o)
Patterned papers are This & That, Echo Park; Stamp set is Words of Wisdom, Verve; Ink is Tuxedo Black, Memento; Cardstock is Black, CTMH; Prima flowers; Buttons, CTMH.

Another Wedding Card

Here's number two (this is the one she ended up using, but she loved them both so my friend kept the previous wedding card that I posted, too!).  I was aiming for classic bridal here, trying to keep it as white as possible.  The embossing powder is a sparkly/irridescent one (called 'bridal'!) that I've had for years, but the effect in real life is quite stunning.  Both the main panel and the sentiment are popped up on pop dots.
Stamp sets are Gracious Greetings and Simple Memories; Ink is Grey Wool; White organdy ribbon - all CTMH.

A Wedding Card

I had a friend request a wedding card this week... so here is the first of two that I've come up with.  Since this one has pretty specific colours - which may not be for everyone... the other one looks distinctly more bridal.  Anyhow, here's my first effort:
Patterned papers are Everafter, Cosmo Cricket; Cardstock is Colonial White, CTMH; Ivory Organdy ribbon, CTMH; Stamp set is Gracious Greetings, CTMH; Ink is Tuxedo Black, Memento and Creme Brulee, CTMH; Spellbinders and Cuttlebug dies. Opaque pearls, CTMH.

Mojo Monday#239

I chose the square option for this week's Mojo Monday sketch - and paired it with one of the fun papers from the Dotty For You paper pack.  You can't see it in the photo very well, but I second and third generation-stamped the Happy Birthday above the first stamping of it:
Patterned papers are Dotty For You; Cardstock is Kraft, Lagoon & Colonial White; Stamp set is Limited Edition; Inks are Sunset, Sweet Leaf & Desert Sand; Sweet Leaf grosgrain ribbon, Blue, Green & Neutral buttons - all CTMH
